December 8th 2021
Long term WHTer Mixmox poses the question "As CentOS 8 draws steadily to End of Life on December 31st, 2021 which OS you will install for new servers or upgrade?". Debian is mentioned but some may struggle with switching over to that, and may be restricted by which OSs some control panels support, so maybe AlmaLinux or CloudLinux could turn out to be more popular alternatives. Whilst some have already taken the plunge and switched to a different OS, others have delayed the inevitable, perhaps waiting for others to share their experiences (and cautions), or in the hope that some easy conversion utilities will become available. What's your strategy for handling this?
Funkywizard has started a discussion about the real prices of dedicated IPs for servers. The costs to hosts has increased dramatically with some increasing their prices accordingly, some charging a setup fee, and some absorbing the increased cost (but for how long?). How many hosts can still offer IPs for free or low cost and how will this change as their reserves run out? IPs now appear to be becoming something of an investment with a growing market in the sale and purchase of blocks. Is the average price of IP ranges going up as a result of the increase in trading of them? Share your thoughts in the thread.
