SEO trends for web hosts to follow in 2024

Since the beginning of this year CanSpace has read dozens of reports and interviews from industry's top SEO experts and has put together a high-level summary of insights that he's learned in respect of areas of SEO to consider and focus on in 2024, optimized for web hosting companies. The talking points in the detailed post that he's put together are in no particular order of importance, as all of them are considered important enough. He thought that he'd share his notes in the interest of our industry doing the right things and doing them better. His post makes for quite a worthwhile read for anyone who sees the importance of working on SEO regularly in our industry where every host is looking for that "magic dust" that will gain them more footfall on their sites and more conversions from visitors/readers to customers. Have a read and share anything that might have been missed so far.

RDP Windows Server 2019 freezing issue

safakb seems to have found something of a gremlin. He has an EX130-R server and installed ESXi 8u2 and vCenter on it. Then he installed Windows Server 2019 with virtualization. However, when using Windows, the image freezes completely every 15-20 minutes. There is no problem with his internet connection or the dedicated server connection, and he'd love to know how he can find out the cause of this freezing. If he closes the connection and logs back in the problem goes away but it repeats every 15 to 20 minutes. There's been several suggestions so far, and he's found one solution that requires editing the registry. That can't be the only way to fix this - Has anyone else come across the same issue?

News from around the hosting industry

Our Industry News section is the place to find current headlines from around the world of hosting and infrastructure, but other general interest threads pop up in other sections of the forum, especially our Web Hosting Lounge. Here we highlight just a selection of some of the interesting items from around the forum:

  • OpenAI to rival Google with new AI-powered search - OpenAI is gearing up to announce its artificial intelligence-driven search product, intensifying its competition with tech giant Google. This marks a significant move in the realm of search engines for OpenAI. CEO Sam Altman hinted that the news would not introduce GPT-5 or a traditional search engine. Instead, the company is expected to showcase advancements in its ChatGPT and GPT-4 models during a live event. The timing is interesting given Google's annual I/O conference kicks almost at the same time.
  • France gets $16 billion for foreign investments as part of 'Choose France' event - This year's annual summit aimed at attracting foreign investment to France will result in 15 billion euros ($16.2 billion) worth of foreign investments, up from last year, said the French presidency. Technology and software giant Microsoft will invest 4 billion euros ($4.3 billion) in France as part of the annual 'Choose France' business summit, its vice chair and president Brad Smith told Le Figaro paper.
  • Amazon to invest $1.3 billion in France, creating 3,000 jobs - AWS' investment would increase cloud infrastructure in the Paris area to support France's flourishing generative AI opportunity and logistics infrastructure in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, the company said in a statement. The increased popularity of GenAI has been fuelling demand for cloud services, and France has become a hub for AI, with promising startups such as Mistral and Poolside. Companies such as Meta and Google have set up AI research centers in the country.
  • Scala Data Centers builds out 560MW power substation in São Paulo, the largest in Brazil - Work has begun on building out the SSUBTB03 power substation, a project with a capacity of 560 MW, at its flagship Tamboré Campus. The substation on the operator's Tamboré Campus in São Paulo is set to be completed in two stages, the first of which is scheduled for December 2024. The new substation complements the existing SSUBTB01 and SSUBTB02 substations, each with 60 MW capacity. The move reinforces Scala's commitment to operational excellence and customer satisfaction by enhancing the campus's power reliability and resiliency, and by providing an avenue for major cloud and content providers to grow.

Is Network-as-a-Service scary?

Today's NaaS separates the control plane from the data plane. It uses the public Cloud for out-of-band deployment, management, and visibility, and it runs on a completely private network. This makes today's NaaS less risky, not more.

Common As-a-Service popularity derives from economics, scalability, agility, reduced risk, focus and innovation.

Explore how today's modern NaaS is a fresh approach to how enterprises build and manage networks in this article presented by EdgeIR.
