Best speed and backup solution for a WordPress site

Rohit is looking for how to achieve the best speed for a WordPress site, with a good backup solution, and within a budget of $50/month. This is a well optimized WordPress site on a LiteSpeed server with LScache. The audience is mainly from the US with some from Canada and the UK. He asks what would be the best solutions for performance (load time including TTFB) and automated backups with easy accessibility? He's currently using semi-dedicated (shared) hosting with high resource limits and Softaculuous auto remote backup to Google Drive. TTFB tends to be within 150 to 250ms across the US. Overall performance is satisfactory. However, he's wondering if there are significantly better performance and backup options available for the same budget. Under consideration would be paid CloudFlare plans (or any other CDN such as QUIC.cloud), or a server with AMD 7xxx processor, etc. He asks for opinions on what would be the best options for this budget? There are already some suggestions in the thread, discussing options like a better hosting plan or a VPS, and different backup solutions, but how would you go about creating this sort of setup?

We can make you number 1 on Google!

How often do you receive an email from someone offering to fix your SEO and put you at the top of Google? Many of us will have received one (or many) of these, and a large percentage of them hardly go into any detail about how they plan to achieve this massive promotion up the Google ranking ladder, but would love to get you on a call to discuss the options. Some even ask you to reply with your website URL, as if they've not even done any research and don't actually know who they're approaching. Then, once in a while, the email that arrives is the opposite of the normal pattern, starting out by giving a price for the work and providing a huge list of tasks that will be performed for you each month. WHTer HyperVMart received such an email recently and has posted this monthly task list at the start of his thread, and asks if the offer is worth the price being quoted. For those of you experienced in SEO, can you pick this list apart and actually put a value on it?

News from around the hosting industry

Our Industry News section is the place to find current headlines from around the world of hosting and infrastructure, but other general interest threads pop up in other sections of the forum, especially The Lounge. Here we we highlight just some of the interesting news items from around the forum:

  • ICANN extends .net contract with Verisign, allows price increase - The agreement is now extended to June 30, 2029 and the renewal allows ICANN to increase wholesale prices by 10% a year, over the objections of many people who submitted comments regarding the deal. The current wholesale price is $9.92, and the new agreement gives Verisign the right to increase prices to $19.31 at the end of the six-year term.
  • 123NET launching new internet exchange inGrand Rapids, Michigan - It will allow content developers, cloud providers, internet service providers and businesses to exchange internet traffic at no cost while improving performance and reliability for users. The new Grand Rapids Exchange (GR-iX) will support West Michigan internet users with improved connectivity, diversity, lower costs and reduced latency across the region. 123NET previously launched the Detroit Internet Exchange (DET-iX) in 2014, and more recently announced new fiber optic cable to be constructed under Lake Michigan linking 123NET's Byron Center Data Center to Chicago's connectivity hubs.
  • Cirion announces new Chilean data center - The new 20 MW carrier-neutral data center in Santiago, Chile, will provide colocation and be energy efficient with direct fiber connectivity to Cirion's other Santiago facility. This expansion of Cirion's existing data center footprint in Latin America will be well-equipped for hyperscale cloud service providers, carriers, content providers, and enterprises requiring scalable infrastructure. It should be online by early 2025.
  • Microsoft planning two new California data centers - They've filed to develop two data centers in San Jose, California. The company is requesting a permit related to the construction of two single-story data center buildings totaling 397,205 square feet, a substation, and 224 backup generators. Microsoft acquired the land in 2017 for around $73 million. At the time they proposed a single four-story, 436,880 square feet, 49.5MW data center by 2020.
