Transport holdups causing issues in the supply chain

A question about the delayed delivery of a single server has sparked a discussion about the current issues within the supply chain, mainly due to bottlenecks at ports causing shortages of critical components. The mayor of Long Beach, California is quoted as saying "We are facing an unprecedented cargo surge at the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles due to major global pandemic production shifts and decades-old supply chain challenges", while retailers, shipping and haulage companies have complained of "chaos" at Felixstowe Port in the UK, with ships being redirected to mainland Europe where the same problems are occuring. A typhoon in Asia spawned another crazy week for shipping at sea, not long after a ship was wedged across the Suez Canal, and power outages in China are causing manufacturers to look for other bases. So how is all this affecting the hosting industry? Datacenters are already reporting shortages of certain components or difficulty in obtaining items in bulk. Is pricing likely to be affected by the current difficulties? Share your thoughts and experiences in the thread.

October 2021 Server Parts Pricing Report

Gabe has produced his next server parts pricing report for 2021. He tracks changing parts prices for RAM, SSDs, Hard Drives, CPUs, and a couple of GPUs. Typically this is done monthly, and then shared with WHT in a monthly report. Currently, all listed prices are from eBay, for used hardware, but he may start tracking more new hardware as well if there is a demand for it. Prices as of 15th October, 2021. The "noteworthy changes" comments at the end of the report are worth a read, noting shifts in availability - It will be interesting to see what changes occur by next month due to supply chain issues.
