Vultr's creators announce $150M funding for expansion

Constant, the creator of the Vultr cloud computing and bare metal platform, has announced a $150 million credit facility from J.P. Morgan and Bank of America. This includes a $25 million uncommitted expansion option to accommodate future growth, and Constant will use the additional capital to expand its global footprint of automated cloud infrastructure to serve its rapidly-growing customer base. Constant claims it has become one of the largest cloud computing platforms in the world without ever raising equity financing. The Vultr platform was launched in 2014 and was built by developers for developers. More than 40 million cloud servers have been launched on the Vultr platform across nearly every country in the world.

mod_security blocking query checking

One of our members has a domain availability checking form which sometimes hangs waiting for a response because of a server issue. His server admin says this may be a problem with mod_security but the issue does not appear in the logs. He's asking which rule could be causing this problem? Oddly, he has accounts on two servers (in the EU and USA) with the same hosting provider and this issue is only occurring on the EU server. Do you have any clues which might help explain what might be going on?

Israel plans web host security rating system

Israel's cybersecurity watchdog The National Cyber Directorate is proposing setting up a safety standard for web hosting providers to let businesses that use their servers know how secure their data will be, following a cyberattack last year. The idea to rank the providers stems from an incident last May when thousands of Israeli websites were simultaneously defaced with anti-Israel messages. After an investigation it was determined that the hackers inflicted the damage by penetrating just one website hosting provider. Is this something we can expect, or even hope for, similar schemes to be introduced in other countries?
