Ethos Capital acquires majority of Donuts

Ethos Capital has completed the purchase of a controlling interest of top-level domain organization Donuts from Abry Partners. Donuts claims to hold the world’s largest portfolio of top-level domains. Ethos Capital’s initial investment in Donuts in 2020 facilitated the acquisition of Afilias, a leading TLD registry operator and provider. "With extensive operational expertise and significant experience in domain name and related industries, Ethos Capital is the perfect partner to support our mission of reliability, security, and stability, as well as position us for continued success. We look forward to working with the Ethos Capital team and leveraging their expertise as we enter this next phase of growth," said Akram Atallah, CEO of Donuts.

How to provide DDoS protection?

Long-time WHTer Marc is looking to provide DDoS protection for his customers occupying his own rack and with his own ASN linked to 2 carriers. He feels his options are either to purchase his own DDoS protection box, but pricing is prohibitive at $40k and up, or should he be looking at cloud DDoS providers like Imperva or DDoS Guard, for example? He asks what other solutions are small hosting providers out there using? Advice in the thread so far seems to lean away from a dedicated box and more towards third-party services. Do you have experience of setting up DDoS protection in this scenario that you could share?

FBI arrests bomber planning AWS datacenter attack

The FBI has arrested a Texas man for allegedly planning to kill 70% of the internet in a bomb attack targeting an Amazon Web Services (AWS) data center on Smith Switch Road in Ashburn, Virginia. FBI agents found that he was planning to use C-4 plastic explosives to attack prominent tech company's data centers in an attempt to 'kill of about 70% of the internet'. He met with an undercover FBI employee on April 8 to get what he believed were explosive devices. If he is found guilty of planning to blow up Amazon's Virginia data center, Pendley faces up to 20 years in federal prison.
