WHMCS Price Increase

Yesterday morning, WHMCS customers began receiving emails that started "We are writing today to let you know about some changes to our pricing and licensing that will become effective on July 1, 2021.". Besides the new pricing levels one big change is that you can no longer purchase support packs or upgrades for your owned licenses. That will make a substantial change to the value of having an owned licence over the coming year as current support packages expire. Are you affected by this change? Fire at WebNX Ogden, Utah

News broke on Sunday of an outage at the WebNX datacenter in Ogden, Utah, with multiple WHTers reporting servers unreachable. It emerged that another company, GorillaServers, were also affected. Once WebNX had had a chance to figure out what had happened they released a statement: "One of our old generators that have worked for years and was recently load tested had a mechanical failure and caught fire resulting in power being cut to our core routers and fire suppression system controlling the fire. Unfortunately, the fire department opted to cut power to the rest of the building as a precaution even though the power systems were independent." going on to say that they were waiting for a building inspoector to give the all clear before they could get to work bringing services back online. Some services are now being restored. Were you affected?

Software licences being "shared" to reduce costs

Some of our members are noticing an increasing number of sites offering software licences at suspiciously low prices, particularly for popular panels and other tools used by webhosts. So offers like cPanel unlimited domains for US$6 monthly are appearing, with similar low-price deals available for DirectAdmin and other hosting products. These shady offers are engineered by using a "shared" licence behind a proxy and splitting it between unsuspecting customers. Who knows what else might be downloaded to your servers if you're using these licences and getting updates from an unauthorised source. Share your thoughts in the thread.
